Urban areas face a persistent challenge that is as pressing as it is paradoxical: limited space to cultivate crops and grow vegetables.

In the concrete jungles we call cities, the green spaces that sustain us are insufficient for the demand, and the concept of nurturing crops can often feel like a distant dream.

This challenge is especially pronounced in urban communities where fresh and locally-sourced produce is not just a luxury but a necessity.

Our Vision for Smart Agriculture

We understand that the scarcity of space should not be a hindrance to cultivating fresh and nutritious produce. Our solution is rooted in a revolutionary concept: vertical gardening. We take the small available space and convert it into vibrant vertical gardens constructed from reused plastic water bottles and discarded metal from students’ old metallic beds. It’s a creative response to the space conundrum that urban areas face, and it’s a testament to the potential within even the most unlikely materials.

A Bounty of Vegetables

Our vertical gardens thrive with a colorful variety of vegetables, including cabbages, onions, tomatoes, green peppers, passion fruits, mushrooms, and much more. These delicious and nutritious produce can serve as potential side dishes, enhancing the culinary experience for everyone.

The beauty of it all lies in the fact that these gardens flourish because plastics and metals are found everywhere; we have transformed everyday materials into a green oasis.

Innovative Mushroom House

Our students have taken the concept of a mushroom house to new heights. Using plastics and clay, they’ve designed an innovative structure to cultivate mushrooms. It’s a testament to our resourcefulness and our dedication to utilizing available materials in inventive ways.

The Circular System

Our efforts in smart agriculture extend to closing the loop in our system. The ash from the briquettes used in the school kitchen is repurposed as fertilizer in our gardens. This embodies our commitment to not only reduce waste but also create a self-sustaining and eco-conscious agricultural system.

Our endeavours in smart agriculture resonate with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From the pursuit of zero hunger (Goal 2) to responsible consumption and production (Goal 12), we are aligned with these global objectives. Our initiatives underscore the importance of sustainable urban communities (Goal 11) and life on land (Goal 15), reinforcing our commitment to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
